Toyota Removes The Shackles And Tells North American Operations To Design Their Own Vehicles
Agent009 submitted on 7/23/2012 Official Bell & Ross Timestamp: 11:56:08 AM
For years, the Toyota Technical Center in Ann Arbor, Mich., did little more than test Japanese vehicles' emissions and, occasionally, tweak an existing design by, say, developing a coupe off a sedan that had been engineered in Japan.
But now the Michigan operation is taking on r&d tasks that used to be handled in Toyota City. It is designing and building cars from the ground up, under the guidance of American chief engineers. It has new, sophisticated equipment that has cut its former reliance on Japan for certain key tests in product development. And it is preparing to start developing engines, the last major gap in its technical capabilities."

Toyota Camry Beats Ford F-150 as Most 'American made'
It was the fourth-straight year that the Camry came in tops in the "American-made" survey. This year, the Ford F-150, the nation's best-selling vehicle, almost beat it. But in the end, Toyota, Honda and General Motors combined for eight of the 10 vehicles on the list.
"When people think about buying an 'American' car, they might just think automatically of the Detroit Three," said Patrick Olsen, editor in chief at Cars.com. "In reality, this classification isn't as cut and dry as it used to be."
He points out that Italy's Fiat owns a majority stake in Chrysler, despite its status as a Big 3 Detroit maker. More foreign makers are building their vehicle in the U.S. as a way to hedge against a strong dollar.
"U.S. sales are a component of our index for a number of reasons," said Olsen. "For one thing, it's safe to say that the more a vehicle sells, the more U.S. workers are involved in production and delivery of the vehicle and the more U.S. dealers are profiting. Additionally, we think it's valid to give credit for how American buyers embrace a vehicle."
Here are the 10 most American vehicles and where they're made:
- Toyota Camry, Georgetown, Ky., and Lafayette, Ind.
- Ford F-150, Dearborn, Mich., and Claycomo, Mo.
- Honda Accord, Marysville, Ohio
- Toyota Sienna, Princeton, Ind.
- Honda Pilot, Lincoln, Ala.
- Chevrolet Traverse, Lansing, Mich.
- Toyota Tundra, San Antonio
- Jeep Liberty, Toledo, Ohio
- GMC Acadia, Lansing
- Buick Enclave, Lansing"

6 Satisfied Customers Left Positive Reviews on Google+Local!
"I had an excellent experience when purchasing my new Scion IQ. I love the car! Brent and the entire Toyota Center staff were great! Thanks for your help."
"Got what I wanted and the salesman Nick helped me get the financing that I needed. The cd player in the used truck I bought didn't work so they had it fixed right away. These are very nice people."
"Robert is the greatest. Love my new Camry. Almost have my wife talked into getting a new one as well!"
"Brent Sansbury at TOYOTA CENTER did a great job especially in the patience department. It took us a month to decide what car to buy. We looked at two other main brands but kept coming back to Toyota due to their long standing track record of dependabilty. My son and I test drove at least a dozen different cars over the last month but Brent offered us a deal that was to good to refuse."
"Very helpful service department!"

Toyota Named Top Green Brand
June 28th, 2012 - Joe Duarte
Toyota was singled out for its unparalleled sustainability leadership.
The Prius (now a family of cars including - from left - the sport compact Prius c, Prius Plug-In, minivan-ish Prius v, and the patriarch Prius sedan) is credited with building and maintaining Toyota’s “green” reputation.
Toyota has been named the world’s Best Global Green Brand for 2012 for its leadership in innovation, environmental sustainability and fuel efficiency. It’s the second successive year the automotive giant has held the top spot of all world brands in 13 sectors.
The Best Global Brand Top 50 awards are bestowed by Interbrand, the world’s leading brand consultancy firm (specializing in brand strategy, analytics and valuation, corporate design, digital brand management, packaging design and naming). Also making the list are Honda (3rd overall), Volkswagen (4th), BMW (10th), Ford (15th); Mercedes-Benz (16th), Hyundai (17th) and Nissan (21st).
The rankings were determined by a survey of more than 10,000 respondents in 10 countries to analyze each company’s environmental record and how the company is perceived by consumers.
Toyota was singled out for its unparalleled sustainability leadership. In particular, Interbrand praised the deeply ingrained environmental sustainability in the company culture, which has been a core management priority since the early 1990s.
That dedication to sustainability is credited for keeping the company ahead of the clean vehicle trend and resulting in steady improvements in energy use, water consumption, waste, and toxic emissions year after year. And, it continues to embark on company wide initiatives to improve environmental performance and build on reputation for cutting-edge eco vehicle development through innovation, key partnerships and strategic campaigns.
At the centre of the company’s success, says Interbrand, is the halo effect generated by the success and long-term visibility of Prius, which, in many people’s minds, has become synonymous with the term “hybrid.”
Honda was praised for its green brand visibility in many world markets, including North America, Japan and the U.K. Its manufacturing plants in North America continue to develop methods to diminish waste throughout the product life cycle. The company also publicizes an ecological evaluation of its suppliers and consistently tops lists as the greenest automaker for low emission ratings and nontoxic design measures.
Volkswagen was commended for its substantial environmental investments and goals, leadership in innovation, environmental sustainability and fuel efficient vehicles.
BMW was praised for its “EfficientDynamics” initiative, which applies green thinking to every stage of product development as it strides toward fuel efficiency and emission reductions."
