Awesome job team, keep up the good work!

" This is the best dealership in the area to get information from online. I've been shopping around and emailing back and forth with several dealers. Those other dealers were shady and did not even come close to the price quote I received from Toyota Center. Toyota Center is relatively far from where I live but I decided to give them a shot and I'm glad I did" -carguy170

Toyota's 2012 Report Details Commitment to the Environment

Toyota_planet

Toyota today highlighted its sustainable manufacturing advancements and commitment to environmental leadership as the automaker released its 2012 North America Environmental Report. The report spans Toyota operations in the United States, Canada and Mexico over the fiscal year, including research and development, manufacturing, logistics and sales. Toyota remains the most fuel-efficient full line auto manufacturer in the United States and the industry hybrid leader.

Achievements featured in the 2012 report include:

  • New eco-conscious vehicles: two within the Prius family – the Prius c and Prius Plug-in Hybrid – and the highly anticipated, all-electric 2013 RAV4 EV co-developed with Tesla
  • Exceeding requirements under the Corporate Average Fuel Economy (CAFE) standards for U.S. cars and Canadian Car Company Average Fuel Consumption (CAFC) standards
  • Ten Toyota North American plants achieved zero waste to landfill
  • Seven percent reduction in greenhouse gas emissions per vehicle produced (since 2008)
  • More than 600 suppliers and 41 Toyota sites have been internationally-certified environmental management systems
  • A 15 percent reduction in energy consumption per vehicle produced (since 2002)
  • Vibrant local partnerships, including nearly 900 volunteer events with TogetherGreenTM, Toyota signature environmental philanthropic program with the National Audubon Society
“Toyota believes sustainable operations go hand-in-hand with our core values of quality, innovation and good corporate citizenship,” said Dian Ogilvie, senior vice president and secretary, Toyota Motor North America, Inc.  “We are committed to continuous improvement and finding creative ways to address the challenges of climate change and resource scarcity with dedicated leadership and the help of our partners.”

The report also measured Toyota North American operations against one-year goals in compliance, air emissions, energy consumption, greenhouse gas emissions, waste minimization and water use. Key partnerships, industry trends and insight on consumer preferences also guide Toyota’s efforts in serving both the planet and its people.

  Other highlights include:

  Innovative Technology and Fuel-Efficiency

  • The Prius Family continues to lead the U.S. hybrid market, capturing 52 percent of the U.S. purchases in the first half of 2012 and with the new Prius Plug-in Hybrid estimated to go as many as 540 miles on a single charge and single tank. More than 1.2 million Prius Family vehicles have been sold in the U.S. and 2.9 million worldwide as of June 30, 2012.
  • Toyota continues to innovate using bio-based plastics in parts and components and is investigating new eco-friendly fabrics and carpets. In each model redesign or running change, more renewable, recycled and recyclable materials are considered.
  • Toyota researchers are developing and testing approximately 100 vehicles powered by hydrogen fuel cells and plan to bring a Fuel Cell Hybrid Vehicle (FCHV) to market by 2015.
  • Toyota is moving ahead with its goal to offer hybrid options on all its vehicles by 2020.
Production and Distribution
  • Toyota’s North American manufacturing affiliate (Toyota Motor Engineering & Manufacturing North America, Inc.) received its eighth consecutive ENERGY STAR® Sustained Excellence Award.  The division was recognized for several efforts, including decreasing absolute energy use by 9 percent, influencing the company’s supply chain by continuing to train suppliers to conduct internal plant energy assessments known as treasure hunts and conducting new research for expanded benchmarking of assembly and powertrain plants.
  • North American plants had zero violations and zero complaints. The Canadian logistics sites achieved their 14th year with no dangerous goods violations.
  • Cumulative savings from the use of returnable containers in Toyota’s logistics division amounts to more than 129 million pounds of wood and 48 million pounds of cardboard. Toyota’s North American Parts Operations division uses more than 60,000 reusable metal shipping containers in place of cardboard and wood pallets, up from 30,000 a few years ago.
Showrooms and Roads
  • Toyota and Scion vehicles represent six of the Top EPA-rated Fuel Sippers for 2012, including the new Prius c, which was ranked first with EPA-estimated 53 mpg city/46 mpg highway.
  • Toyota leads the industry with 37 facilities certified to LEED® including 11 Toyota and Lexus sites and 26 dealerships. Toyota’s sales and logistics division, Toyota Motor Sales, U.S.A., Inc. (TMS), has been a member of the United States Green Building Council since 2002.
Community Partnerships
  • In 2008, Toyota provided a $20 million grant and launched TogetherGreen™ with the National Audubon Society. The program trains environmental leaders and awards grants for conservation projects across the United States. The program has trained 400 conservation leaders who have inspired volunteers to give more than 333,000 hours to various projects.
  • In mid-2012, Toyota celebrated reaching 1 million Canadian children through the Evergreen Learning Grounds program. The program offers students a close, hands-on relationship with the natural world while educating them about the importance of restoring and protecting it.

The Top Compact Car is the Toyota Corolla

Is it any wonder the world's best-selling car winds up here? The Corolla name is nearly as old as Mustang, and when it comes to no-frills, dead-reliable transport, nothing is more renowned. Like the Yaris, the current Corolla is outclassed by its many rivals in technology, design and performance. That doesn't seem to matter.

Toyota Donates $1M to Hurricane Sandy Relief Efforts

Toyota_logo1

Toyota has announced that it is donating $1 million to the Red Cross, for the benefit of Hurricane Sandy victims, many of which are still living without power days after the storm.

The company will also match employees contributions to the Red Cross, or other non-profit organizations that are helping out with Hurricane relief. “On behalf of Toyota, we express our sincere condolences to the families affected by Hurricane Sandy. Since we have operations and many dealerships in the affected regions, we felt a special responsibility to lend a hand,” said CEO of Toyota North America Shigeki Terashi.
If the Hurricane affected customers ability to pay for a lease, or keep up to date on car payments, Toyota and Lexus will also help out by offering lease payment extensions, redirecting billing statements, and by arranging phone or internet payment. Anyone who is looking to purchase a new vehicle in the affected States will get a helping hand in the form of a 90 day deferred first payment program.

Ford drops to near-bottom of Consumer Reports' reliability study

Toyota-vs-ford

Ford Motor Co. plunged for the second straight year in Consumer Reports' survey of auto reliability and now ranks near the bottom of the annual scorecard.

The Ford brand finished 27th out of the 28 brands rated in the latest report, after dropping to 20th from No. 10 last year. Lincoln fell to 26th from 14th. Toyota Motor Corp.'s Scion, Toyota and Lexus brands ranked first, second and third in a list that continues to be dominated by Asian brands.

"Ford's bumpy road can be seen in the numbers," Jake Fisher, Consumer Reports' new director of automotive testing, said in a statement released today. "Sixty percent of Ford-branded models and half of Lincolns were below average in predicted reliability, and none placed above average."

It's another blow for Ford, which just two years ago had been touted by the magazine for achieving a "quality renaissance."

In June, the Ford brand placed 27th in the annual Initial Quality Study by J.D. Power and Associates, as it was downgraded by consumers who found the MyFord Touch electronic infotainment system hard to use. In 2010, the Ford brand ranked No. 5 in the same study.

Consumer Reports uses reported experiences for the most-recent three years of each model to predict future reliability. The data in the 2012 Auto Reliability Survey released today are drawn from subscribers' experiences with 1.2 million vehicles.

Ford spokesman Mark Schirmer said the findings echo Ford's own research.

"We know we have areas to address, and we have been working on them and we have been making progress," he said. "Our internal data ... show that we are improving in these areas, and we expect that will be reflected in next year's Consumer Reports survey."

Main reasons

The magazine said Ford suffered for three main reasons:

• The expansion of the MyFord/MyLincoln Touch system into a wider range of vehicles. Fisher said the technology has been "problematic so far."
• Some newly redesigned models -- including the Ford Explorer, Fiesta and Focus -- "came out of the gate with more problems than normal."
• Three normally reliable models -- the Ford Escape and Fusion and the Lincoln MKZ -- were redesigned for 2013 and were too new to be counted in this year's results.

Fisher also cited ongoing consumer concerns with Ford's six-speed, dual-clutch PowerShift automatic transmission.

Four other Japanese brands ranked just behind Scion, Toyota, and Lexus at the top: Mazda, Subaru, Honda and Acura. Last year, Scion, Lexus and Acura took the top three spots.
All models from the top seven brands had rankings of average or better in the 2012 study. And of the 90 Japanese models that had the magazine's minimum 100 subscriber responses, 86 finished above average.

Toyota is on top according to the latest Consumer Reports survey

Toyota

Japanese brands took the top seven spots in Consumer Reports' annual reliability rankings, pushing aside their U.S. and  European rivals. Toyota Motor Corp.'s Scion, Lexus and Toyota brands took the top three spots and the Toyota Prius C, a subcompact hybrid, got the best overall score. Mazda, Subaru, Honda and Acura were close behind.

The rankings, released Monday, predict the reliability of 2013 model-year vehicles based on surveys of Consumer Reports' readers. This year, 800,000 people submitted information on 1.2 million vehicles from the 2010 to 2012 model years. The rankings are critical for auto companies, since Americans frequently cite Consumer Reports as a main source of car-buying advice.

Ford and Lincoln, once top performers, plummeted to the bottom of this year's rankings because of persistent problems with glitchy touch screens and bumpy transmissions. Ford was also hurt because three normally reliable models — the Ford Escape, Ford Fusion and Lincoln MKZ — are all new for 2013, so Consumer Reports couldn't predict their reliability.

Also near the bottom were Chrysler Group's Chrysler, Dodge and Ram brands, which have been getting a fast makeover since partnering with Italy's Fiat three years ago. Consumer Reports says models with more features and more powerful engines, like the V-8 versions of the Chrysler 300 and Jeep Grand Cherokee — had the most issues.

The best-performing U.S. brand was Cadillac, from General Motors Co.

Volkswagen AG's luxury Audi brand made the biggest strides in this year's survey, climbing 18 spots to No. 8. It was the best-performing European brand. Glitch-free new models like the A7 sedan got high marks from Jake Fisher, Consumer Reports' director of automotive testing.

"They're out-BMWing BMW, easily, in terms of the driving dynamics," he said.

Electric cars also got impressive results. The all-electric Nissan Leaf was Nissan's best performer, partly because its electric motor has fewer parts than a gasoline engine, Fisher said. But the Chevrolet Volt — an extended-range electric car that has both an electric system and a conventional engine and transmission — also got the highest score of any GM vehicle.

"GM took a lot of painstaking time to develop that car," Fisher said.

The Volt was recalled earlier this year because vehicles crash-tested by the government showed a risk of fire when coolant leaked from the battery. But Consumer Reports' rankings don't reflect that, since the magazine only asks respondents to note issues that have happened on their own vehicles. Only vehicles with 100 or more responses are included. Among 2012 models, the magazine got the most responses for the Honda CR-V, with nearly 3,000.

Fisher said the magazine is getting about the same number of complaints as it did five years ago. But issues with electronics, audio and touch-screen systems have increased while complaints about mechanical problems are down.

Hurricane Tips to Stay Safe During Sandy

Hurricane-sandy

Before a Hurricane

To prepare for a hurricane, you should take the following measures:

  • To begin preparing, you should build an emergency kit and make a family communications plan.
  • Know your surroundings.
  • Learn the elevation level of your property and whether the land is flood-prone. This will help you know how your property will be affected when storm surge or tidal flooding are forecasted.
  • Identify levees and dams in your area and determine whether they pose a hazard to you.
  • Learn community hurricane evacuation routes and how to find higher ground. Determine where you would go and how you would get there if you needed to evacuate.
  • Make plans to secure your property:
  • Cover all of your home’s windows. Permanent storm shutters offer the best protection for windows. A second option is to board up windows with 5/8” marine plywood, cut to fit and ready to install. Tape does not prevent windows from breaking.
  • Install straps or additional clips to securely fasten your roof to the frame structure. This will reduce roof damage.
  • Be sure trees and shrubs around your home are well trimmed so they are more wind resistant.
  • Clear loose and clogged rain gutters and downspouts.
  • Reinforce your garage doors; if wind enters a garage it can cause dangerous and expensive structural damage.
  • Plan to bring in all outdoor furniture, decorations, garbage cans and anything else that is not tied down.
  • Determine how and where to secure your boat.
  • Install a generator for emergencies.
  • If in a high-rise building, be prepared to take shelter on or below the 10th floor.
  • Consider building a safe room.

During a Hurricane

If a hurricane is likely in your area, you should:

  • Listen to the radio or TV for information.
  • Secure your home, close storm shutters and secure outdoor objects or bring them indoors.
  • Turn off utilities if instructed to do so. Otherwise, turn the refrigerator thermostat to its coldest setting and keep its doors closed.
  • Turn off propane tanks
  • Avoid using the phone, except for serious emergencies.
  • Moor your boat if time permits.
  • Ensure a supply of water for sanitary purpose such as cleaning and flushing toilets. Fill the bathtub and other larger containers with water.
  • Find out how to keep food safe during and after and emergency.

You should evacuate under the following conditions:

If you are directed by local authorities to do so. Be sure to follow their instructions.

  • If you live in a mobile home or temporary structure – such shelter are particularly hazardous during hurricane no matter how well fastened to the ground.
  • If you live in a high-rise building – hurricane winds are stronger at higher elevations.
  • If you live on the coast, on a floodplain, near a river, or on an island waterway.

Read more about evacuating yourself and your family. If you are unable to evacuate, go to your wind-safe room. If you do not have one, follow these guidelines:

  • Stay indoors during the hurricane and away from windows and glass doors.
  • Close all interior doors – secure and brace external doors.
  • Keep curtains and blinds closed. Do not be fooled if there is a lull; it could be the eye of the storm – winds will pick up again.
  • Take refuge in a small interior room, closet or hallway on the lowest level.
  • Lie on the floor under a table or another sturdy object.
  • Avoid elevators.

After a Hurricane

  • Continue listening to a NOAA Weather Radio or the local news for the latest updates.
  • Stay alert for extended rainfall and subsequent flooding even after the hurricane or tropical storm has ended.
  • If you have become separated from your family, use your family communications plan or contact FEMA or the American Red Cross.
    • FEMA has established the National Emergency Family Registry and Locator System (NEFRLS), which has been developed to help reunite families who are separated during a disaster. The NEFRLS system will enable displaced individuals the ability to enter personal information into a website database so that they can be located by others during a disaster.
    • The American Red Cross also maintains a database to help you find family. Contact the local American Red Cross chapter where you are staying for information. Do not contact the chapter in the disaster area.
  • If you evacuated, return home only when officials say it is safe.
  • If you cannot return home and have immediate housing needs. Text SHELTER + your ZIP code to 43362 (4FEMA) to find the nearest shelter in your area (example: shelter 12345).
  • For those who have longer-term housing needs, FEMA offers several types of assistance, including services and grants to help people repair their homes and find replacement housing. Apply for assistance or search for information about housing rental resources
  • Drive only if necessary and avoid flooded roads and washed¬ out bridges. Stay off the streets. If you must go out watch for fallen objects; downed electrical wires; and weakened walls, bridges, roads, and sidewalks.
  • Keep away from loose or dangling power lines and report them immediately to the power company.
  • Walk carefully around the outside your home and check for loose power lines, gas leaks and structural damage before entering.
  • Stay out of any building if you smell gas, floodwaters remain around the building or your home was damaged by fire and the authorities have not declared it safe.
  • Inspect your home for damage. Take pictures of damage, both of the building and its contents, for insurance purposes. If you have any doubts about safety, have your residence inspected by a qualified building inspector or structural engineer before entering.
  • Use battery-powered flashlights in the dark. Do NOT use candles. Note: The flashlight should be turned on outside before entering - the battery may produce a spark that could ignite leaking gas, if present.
  • Watch your pets closely and keep them under your direct control. Watch out for wild animals, especially poisonous snakes. Use a stick to poke through debris.
  • Avoid drinking or preparing food with tap water until you are sure it’s not contaminated.
  • Check refrigerated food for spoilage. If in doubt, throw it out.
  • Wear protective clothing and be cautious when cleaning up to avoid injury.
  • Use the telephone only for emergency calls.
  • NEVER use a generator inside homes, garages, crawlspaces, sheds, or similar areas, even when using fans or opening doors and windows for ventilation. Deadly levels of carbon monoxide can quickly build up in these areas and can linger for hours, even after the generator has shut off.

Toyota Challenges Teachers & Students to Help Teens Stay Safe Behind the Wheel

Teendrivingsafe

Toyota and Discovery Education today announced that the Toyota Teen Driver Video Challenge and Toyota Teen Driver Educators’ Challenge are now open for entries. These challenges invite teens and their teachers to share their most creative ideas to help promote teen safe driving habits.  Entries for both programs are due by Feb. 14, 2013.

Motor vehicle crashes remain the number one cause of death for teens.  In fact, current research shows that 35% of all teen deaths are a result of car crashes -- more than cancer, suicide, heart disease and homicide combined. To address this challenge, Toyota and Discovery Education teamed up in 2010 to create Toyota Teen Driver, a comprehensive program and online destination providing safe-driving tools and resources to educators, students and parents.

Safe Driving Programs for Both Teens and Teachers

The Toyota Teen Driver Video Challenge encourages students to create and develop an original video describing what they can do in their communities to help make their peers and themselves safer drivers. The top ten videos will be chosen by a panel of experts for their originality and compelling content, followed by a public voting period on ToyotaTeenDriver.com to select the winner. The first, second and third place winners will receive $15,000, $10,000 and $7,500 cash prizes, respectively. In addition, Discovery Channel film crews will visit the top three students’ hometowns to hear their stories and capture their visions for safer driving for pieces that will air on ToyotaTeenDriver.com and additional Discovery online properties. The seven runners-up will each receive $1,000.  The Video Challenge is open to students in grades 9-12.

Recognizing that educators also play a key role in ensuring teens stay safe on the road, Toyota and Discovery Education have also opened applications for the 2013 Toyota Teen Driver Educators’ Challenge.  For this Challenge, educators are asked to create innovative action plans for keeping students safe on the roads. The grand prize winner will receive a 4 day trip for two to Washington, D.C., to attend a safe-driving conference and a $10,000 cash prize. In addition, that teacher’s school will be awarded a Virtual Driver Interactive simulator and a safe-driving assembly, led by Toyota Teen Driver experts.  The second place winner will receive a $5,000 cash prize and a driving simulator and safe-driving assembly for their school.

“At Toyota, we are deeply committed to the notion that everyone deserves to be safe,” said Patricia Salas Pineda, Toyota’s group vice president of National Philanthropy and the Toyota USA Foundation.  “We are glad to be working with Discovery Education to bring critical safety information to schools and students across the country.  This is an important commitment for Toyota and a vital part of our efforts to help ensure that drivers and passengers are safe at every phase of life.”

In addition to Toyota Teen Driver, Toyota’s work to help keep teens safe on the road includes: Toyota Driving Expectations, a free program for teens and their parents which provides hands-on, real world defensive driving experiences; groundbreaking safety research partnerships with major North American research universities through the company’s $50 million Collaborative Safety Research Center; and national teen safe driving partnerships with DoSomething.org and the National Safety Council.  Toyota also has a national program in place to help ensure safety for child passengers (Buckle Up for Life) as well as a major partnership with AARP to address driver safety for seniors.

Toyota showcases Smart Insect concept car

Insect_concept

Toyota's latest concept car is dubbed the Smart Insect and is somewhat reminiscent of a Smart car, if only a tad smaller.

Nevertheless, Toyota's concept - which will likely never see production in its current iteration - still boasts some pretty sweet tech designed to recognize and anticipate driver feedback.

The little electric vehicle charges from a standard 100 V outlet and is equipped with gull wing doors that open widely. The Smart Insect also boasts a comprehensive motion detection system powered by a Microsoft Kinect sensor that is used to recognize and respond to a driver based on face and body shape.

Toyota also claims the motion detection technology can predict the driver's behavior by analyzing his or her movements and determining when to open the door automatically. Frankly, this sounds a bit unnerving to me, as if you make a strange move while stopped at a red light it seems the doors could possibly open accidentally.

Then again, one could probably safely assume that Toyota installed some sort of integrated safety technology  designed specifically to prevent the doors from opening - unless the vehicle is completely stopped and in parking mode. In any case, the motion detection technology also activates a front and rear display - showing a welcome message and opening a door (based on voice recognition) when the driver approaches the car.

In addition, Toyota has fitted a wireless charging pad for smartphones, along with a dash mounted display that connects to your handset. The concept car supports close integration with mobile apps, allowing the owner to adjust air-conditioning and lock the doors using their smartphones.

One of the most interesting features of this concept car? It is only equipped with a single seat. So if you're wondering how some of these odd concept features might translate into a production, simply put, they won't. Toyota has been clear that it will not be producing this vehicle, although some of the tech is likely to find its way to future vehicles rolling off the production lines and onto American streets.

The 2013 Toyota Prius C offers value and satisfaction

2013_toyota_prius_c_photo

Now in its second year, the 2013 Toyota Prius C is largely unchanged from the car that debuted last year. This is the smallest of the four-car Prius lineup, though like its siblings, its "dedicated hybrid" body style is only offered as a gas-electric hybrid vehicle.

Smaller and about $5,000 less expensive than the classic Prius Liftback, which counts as a mid-size car, the Prius C five-door hatchback falls between compact and subcompact in size. Its styling is less Space Age-y than the rest of the Prius lineup, and you might not know it's a hybrid if it weren't for the 50-mpg EPA combined gas-mileage rating.

For value-conscious drivers and first-time buyers, the Prius C's base price of $19,710 offers a much more affordable--and somewhat less oddball--way to enter the Prius lineup and still get the highest gas mileage rating of any non-plug-in car sold in the U.S. this year. That 50-mpg fuel efficiency breaks down to 53 mpg on the city cycle (higher than the Prius Liftback) and 46 mpg on the highway (lower than the Liftback), which points out how hard it is to make a very aerodynamic subcompact car.

The smaller, lighter hybrid gets a smaller, lighter powertrain. The 1.5-liter engine puts out 73 horsepower, and is paired with a more compact Hybrid Synergy Drive system with two motor-generators. The combined powertrain puts out a maximum of 99 hp. Toyota has cleverly managed to fit both a gasoline tank and a smaller 0.9-kilowatt-hour battery pack under the rear seat, meaning that the Prius C offers a full-depth load bay--unlike the Honda Insight, which has a shallower cargo area with the battery pack underneath.

On the road, the smallest Prius is surprisingly nimble and maneuverable, especially in comparison to the numb and ponderous handling of its larger siblings. But again, don't expect the dynamics of a sporty performance hatchback. Instead, the payoff is clear at the pump: In 50 miles of driving around San Diego—including freeways, two-lane roads, and stop-and-go—we saw a 51.4-mpg average.

Acceleration is about on par with other economical subcompacts. But performance is definitely not a priority, with the Prius C offering an Eco mode--which reduces power output and has different climate-control settings--as well as an EV mode, for going up to a half mile on electricity only. But fans of hot hatches will notice that the Prius C has no Power or Sport mode

The 2013 Prius C is closer in size to the subcompact Toyota Yaris than to the compact Matrix hatchback, at 157 inches long and 67 inches wide. That makes the five-door hybrid hatchback truly maneuverable and perfectly suited to big city use and tight parking spaces. The smooth, round, low front end and swept-back headlamps offer a mix of Prius and Yaris styling cues, but the upright rear reads generic subcompact--without the Prius Littback's drooping, chopped-off tail and two-part rear window. The Prius C has vertical tail lamps, a long roof spoiler, and a conventional liftgate that's more vertical than horizontal. From the rear, observers may never know it's a hybrid if they don't read the badges.

Open the door of the 2013 Toyota Prius C, and you'll see an all-new dashboard that blends a traditional Prius centrally mounted Multi Information Display just below the windshield with more conventional controls--including not the class Prius drive selector stalk sprouting from the dash, but a conventional floor-mounted chrome shift lever. Other switches and controls are recognizable from the Yaris subcompact as well.

Inside, you'll find more cabin space in the Prius C than you might suspect. Front seats feel about the same as in other Prius models; in back, two six-footers should be able to fit without any fuss--though there's no mistaking it for a mid-size car.

The material and trim quality is noticeably cheaper than what you'll find in the current Prius, though it's about average for mainstream subcompacts. Our test cars appeared to be built and assembled well, without squeaks or other glitches. Toyota has clearly worked to keep cost down, with painted metal visible inside on the window surrounds and hatchback, but the effect is thrifty rather than grim. In base Prius C One models, there's even a conventional ignition key rather than push-button start.

The Prius C was named an IIHS Top Safety Pick last year; it comes with nine standard airbags, along with all the now-typical safety aids such as electronic stability control and anti-lock brakes with Brake Assist.

With delivery included, the base price of the 2013 Toyota Prius C is $19,710 for the lowest of four trim levels, the Prius C One. Even that base model comes with an impressive level of standard equipment, including automatic climate control, power accessories, keyless entry, and a sound system that includes a USB port (and iPod capability). Moving up the range, the Prius C Three includes a navigation system and Toyota's Entune interface, while the top-of-the-line Prius Four adds fog lamps, alloy wheels, and heated seats. To simply ordering (and allow for some dealer customization), there's only a single option package, consisting of alloy wheels and a moonroof bundled together.

While the Prius C costs a couple of thousand dollars more than a comparably equipped gasoline subcompact hatchback, it's likely that you can get a payback in its vastly improved fuel economy. To make the math easy, assume that a regular subcompact gets 33 mpg against the Prius C's 50 mpg. That's one extra gallon of gasoline every 100 miles--or a possible payback in as little as 50,000 miles (assuming $4-a-gallon gasoline).

Your mileage may vary, as will your comparison cars, your own travel patterns, and so forth. But if you want to hedge your bets against unpredictable gasoline prices and your overall fuel costs, the 2013 Toyota Prius C is the highest-mileage inexpensive car you can buy.

Thanks for the great review Melissa, and welcome to the Toyota Center family!

"As a woman going to buy a new car on my own, I found the sales team (Michael, Zeke and Stacey) at Toyota Center were very respectful and attentive to me. The atmosphere is relaxed and they went out of their way to get me what I wanted. Though their lot is small and they may not have exactly what you're looking for, they will find it and have it delivered within 1 day. Also, they gave me top dollar for my trade. $3000 more than the other Toyota place. The Family plan gets me free oil changes for life of the car as well."

"My experience at The Toyota Center was like I was coming home to family I hadn't seen in years. My salesman was Mr. Robert Drakeford. He treated me as if I was a Queen. He took so much time working with me, making sure that I found the car that would exactly fit my wants and needs as a driver. Matt and Zeke, the sales managers, were like "come on in friend". There was no stress. No nervous pits in my stomach. It was easier than going to grocery store."

Apparently alternative fuel vehicles aren't just for the 20th and 21st century...

On this day in history, 1876, the first auto race in the United States which was held at the Narragansett Trotting Park in Cranston, Rhode Island, was won by which type of vehicle: electric, steam, or gas-powered?

Note: all types were entered in the race.

200-Millionth Toyota Sets Global Milestone

Mon, 06 August 2012
200millionthtoyota
"MUSCAT — In 1935, the first Toyota — a G1 truck — was produced in the automotive department of Toyoda Automatic Loom Works, Ltd. Seventy-six years later the automaker has manufactured 199,999,999 more vehicles, reaching the 200 million milestone.

Marking the achievement, Toyota President Akio Toyoda said: “I wish to express my heartfelt appreciation to our customers the world over who made it possible for us to reach this milestone. I also have the most profound respect and gratitude for the efforts of all persons who were involved in developing, manufacturing and marketing Toyota and Lexus vehicles over the years. We are determined to make our cars even better, to continue to give our customers the best possible product. This is the common goal of our 300,000 Toyota staff members worldwide.”

The most-produced Toyota model is the Corolla, with total global production just shy of the 40 million mark at 39.08 million units making it the best selling car of all time. The 2013 Corolla has recently been launched in Oman. In it, state-of-the-art technology and superb design comes together perfectly. Elegantly crafted and loaded with special touches ... “the stylishly new Corolla Exclusive puts all others in the shade,” say those who have seen the marvel from up close.

The stylishly new Corolla Exclusive is available in Oman with many attractions that include front and rear body-kit, alloy wheels, chrome side protection moulding, turn signal indicators on the outer mirrors, rear-lip spoiler, chrome garnish fog lamp, chrome muffler cutter and several   redesigned features. New "exclusive" decals on both flanks add to its appeal.

An air of exclusivity is created by the rich woodgrain panelling that adorns the front console along with woodgrain steering wheel and gear shift knob. The bluetooth kit adds to the convenience. Generous head and legroom and superb fit and finish heighten the feel of relaxation.

Another star performer is the Toyota Camry — a model that has gone on to dominate the midsize family sedan segment for virtually all of the century, as consumers immediately embraced it for its high build quality, comfortable ride and impressive durability. Successive models of Camry have received top awards over the years and the consumers have always trusted the excellent quality, durability and reliability of this vehicle.

If we speak of the current Camry, we can conclude that it's the 'Best Camry Ever' on the basis of its bold, sophisticated design, an even spacious interior, improved driving characteristics and an even quieter ride.

With class-leading safety, fuel economy from its four-cylinder, 2.5-litre based power-train and multimedia technology, it is a truly 'a pride to own and a joy to drive'.

From Toyota's stable of triumphant thoroughbreds, the Land Cruiser rears its proud head higher. “There are a few vehicles that inspire my imagination,” says a Forbes magazine article, “Just say 'Land Cruiser' in my vicinity, and I’m off to the desert, or the jungle, or anywhere a million miles away from civilisation — at least in my mind,” The object of Forbes' admiration, the Toyota Land Cruiser   is a 'Totally Unchallenged' 4WD. With cutting-edge innovations to its exterior and interior, it delivers high performance, safety and luxury, whether on the road or off.
Among other achievers in the Toyota range are Aurion, Avalon, Prado, Fortuner, FJ Cruiser, Yaris, Sequoia, Hilux, Coaster, among others. Each a favourite in their segment.

In Oman, Toyota soars far above the rest — both in terms of market share as well as customer retention. Its pride of place made possible by an outstanding product and the ever-reliable support of Saud Bahwan Group.

Added privileges available to Toyota customers include 6-year unlimited mileage protection plan, 98 per cent parts availability and a vast sales, service and spares infrastructure/facility network spanning Oman."

Toyota Removes The Shackles And Tells North American Operations To Design Their Own Vehicles

Toyotalogo
"Toyota Motor Corporation's North American operations have a new, unprecedented assignment: Develop cars. On your own.

For years, the Toyota Technical Center in Ann Arbor, Mich., did little more than test Japanese vehicles' emissions and, occasionally, tweak an existing design by, say, developing a coupe off a  sedan that had been engineered in Japan.

But now the Michigan operation is taking on r&d tasks that used to be handled in Toyota City. It is designing and building cars from the ground up, under the guidance of American chief engineers. It has new, sophisticated equipment that has cut its former reliance on Japan for certain key tests in product development. And it is preparing to start developing engines, the last major gap in its technical capabilities."

Toyota Camry Beats Ford F-150 as Most 'American made'

By Chris Woodyard, USA TODAY l Updated 2012-07-09 1:51 PM
Camryx-wide-community
"Once again,Cars.com has come to the counter-intuitive conclusion that the Toyota Camry is the most American of all cars -- more U.S. sourced parts, U.S. production and U.S. sales.

It was the fourth-straight year that the Camry came in tops in the "American-made" survey. This year, the Ford F-150, the nation's best-selling vehicle, almost beat it. But in the end, Toyota, Honda and General Motors combined for eight of the 10 vehicles on the list.

"When people think about buying an 'American' car, they might just think automatically of the Detroit Three," said Patrick Olsen, editor in chief at Cars.com. "In reality, this classification isn't as cut and dry as it used to be."

He points out that Italy's Fiat owns a majority stake in Chrysler, despite its status as a Big 3 Detroit maker. More foreign makers are building their vehicle in the U.S. as a way to hedge against a strong dollar.

"U.S. sales are a component of our index for a number of reasons," said Olsen. "For one thing, it's safe to say that the more a vehicle sells, the more U.S. workers are involved in production and delivery of the vehicle and the more U.S. dealers are profiting. Additionally, we think it's valid to give credit for how American buyers embrace a vehicle."

Here are the 10 most American vehicles and where they're made:

  1. Toyota Camry, Georgetown, Ky., and Lafayette, Ind.
  2. Ford F-150, Dearborn, Mich., and Claycomo, Mo.
  3. Honda Accord, Marysville, Ohio
  4. Toyota Sienna, Princeton, Ind.
  5. Honda Pilot, Lincoln, Ala.
  6. Chevrolet Traverse, Lansing, Mich.
  7. Toyota Tundra, San Antonio
  8. Jeep Liberty, Toledo, Ohio
  9. GMC Acadia, Lansing
  10. Buick Enclave, Lansing"
